The rules are very simple: challenge a monk or a guest player, and if you win, you get a meal ticket. Use that meal ticket to enjoy the Kaga and Noto gourmet food at the festival stalls.

They are Ebizawa and Kuwahara from the local Kanazawa University shogi club.

Both are strong amateurs who have also played in national tournaments.
